One of the world’s largest mobile game companies Playrix has acquired Ukrainian game studio Boolat Games — the amount of the deal was not disclosed.

Both companies began their journe yin the game development industry in 2001. The founders of Playrix are Russians Igor and Dmitry Bukhmana, and the company is best known for games such as Fishdom, Homescapes and Gardenscapes. In 2019, Playrix ranked among the top 5 European mobile gaming companies in terms of revenue for the first time, and a year later took third place in the world ranking.

Boolat Games has released 20 games in its history, including Lagsters, Topatoi, Harvest Land and Decurse. The team now employs 30 people from Kyiv and Poltava. After the deal, the studio changed its name to Boolat Play and has already started developing a joint game project.

This is not the first purchase of a Ukrainian studio for Playrix: two years ago it added Zagrava Games to its two other Ukrainian assets, launching a new office in Ukraine. Then experts estimated the deal at $1M. Playrix’s “portfolio” also includes the Belarusian studio Vizor Games.

“Now, in 2021, I am confident that combining the unique experience of Boolat with our expertise and resources will allow us to create hits that will be appreciated by millions of players,” says Dmitry Buchman, Playrix cofounder, about the deal.
